Storing, managing and moving more than 300 different products

Active in the distribution of iron and steel products, the Gruppo Commerciale Siderurgica Bresciana has been a customer of OMIS for many years, for lifting and handling solutions. In particular, the Lombardy-based company relied on OMIS for essential overhead cranes, but in this case the requirement was different and had other aspects compared to the “usual” requests. It was necessary to develop vertical, automated storage facilities that could preserve the advantages of the usual manual logistics process, while improving it and taking it to greater heights. It was also necessary to increase safety and precision in product handling, which until then had been exposed to human error.

The OMIS automatic storage unit proved to be the ideal solution for storing and handling material of all weights and sizes, up to 300 different products, making maximum use of the available space, thus reducing the area occupied compared to a traditional warehouse. The work process was preserved, but its speed, safety and reliability were increased, thanks to the installation of an automatic overhead crane, combined with a crossing span shuttle for loading/unloading baskets, and the use of lifts to optimise downtime. A customised configuration comprising 1,000 slots for a storage capacity of 1,500 tonnes. The main advantage is increased productivity, with safe and dynamic product management, which, combined with specific software for optimal inventory control, tracks handling and ensures convenient and safe material organisation, faster picking and preparation.
